Synopsis A brief review is given of the application of some new TECHNIQUES of electron microscopy to toiletries research. Examples are given of the scanning electron microscope examination of HAIR, SKIN and TOOTH surfaces treated with different materials, of the electron histochemical demonstration of the distribution of CYSTINE in human hair and of the rapid identification of the scalp yeast PITYROSPORUM OVALE by conventional transmission electron microscopy. In addition, the internal structure of the human comedo is examined by TRANSMISSION SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY.
